New Zealand's riders go into the last day of the 100th FIM International Six Days Enduro in Grândola, Portugal, with the Women's Trophy team holding fourth. Only the Final Cross Test remains, on Saturday 17 October, Portugal time.
Waikato's Rachael Archer (Yamaha) has led the way. The official classification after Day 5 has her fifth-fastest of the Women's World Trophy riders on 3:21:31.02, behind Americans Brandy Richards and Korie Steede and Australians Danielle McDonald and Madi Simpson.
Her best day was Day 3, when the FIM's report had her third in the Women's class behind Richards and McDonald. She followed it with fourth on Day 4.
In the team standings, the FIM's Day 5 report has the United States more than six minutes clear of Australia, with France third and twenty minutes ahead of New Zealand. FIM Latin America are fifth and Canada sixth.
Archer's teammates are Bailey Newbould (Husqvarna), of South Wairarapa, who turned 16 just weeks before the event, and UK-based Charlotte Knight (Triumph), originally from Whakatāne. After five days Newbould is on 3:46:49.76 and Knight on 4:00:37.06.
In the Junior World Trophy, New Zealand enduro champion Blake Affleck (Honda), of Owaka, is the quickest Kiwi on 3:18:01.71. Thomas Easton (Honda), of Rakaia, is on 3:24:47.84 and Paeroa's Ashton Whyte (Beta) on 3:25:18.56. Italy lead the class by two minutes and fifty seconds from the United States.
Jayden McAloon, of Ōtorohanga, and James Purdie, of Christchurch, are also racing for New Zealand in the Junior Development Club Team.
Up front, Italy lead the World Trophy from France, and Italy's Andrea Verona leads Spain's Josep García by ten seconds in the race for the outright individual win.
Archer was second in the women's individual results at the 2024 ISDE in Spain, the year New Zealand made its Women's World Trophy debut. In MNZ's team preview before the event, she said: "I'm excited to see if I can put New Zealand on the map."
The Final Cross Test results are due on Saturday evening in Portugal, which is Sunday morning in New Zealand. ROOST will update this story with the final results.
